The Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies supports community-based natural resources management and the role it plays in international wildlife sustainability by utilizing funds generated to align conservation with local community needs.
In the United States, hunting has and continues to play an integral role in the successful and sustainable conservation and management of wildlife. The North American Model of Conservation is a set of principles that have governed the conservation of many species of wildlife in the United States and Canada. Sustainable use is at the heart of this model. Hunting and other forms of sustainable use also contribute to the conservation of wildlife in other countries. Although governance models differ, reflecting differences in values and cultures, legal, well-regulated, and sustainable hunting can make significant positive contributions to both wildlife conservation and the livelihoods of local communities.
