Background of the Conservation Education Strategy
The decision to create a national strategy was the result of a three day Summit on Conservation Education convened by the Association at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia (Dec. 6-9 2004).
The Association's North American Conservation Education Strategy was forged by a subset of summit participants, in Alabama , February 2005. Taking the information from the Summit and boiling it down over three days was not an easy chore but is was accomplished with zeal. The small working group set the following sideboards:
This will be a Strategy for the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (Association)
It will only address that part of conservation education which focuses on fish, wildlife, and their management.
It will only address those issues that are national or North American in scope.
Strategy will always be an evolving document.
The Strategy at this point is a broad foundation that allows us to move forward. Each of the five goals within the Strategy came directly from summit participants. The Strategy is in the process of being further developed.
