Legislative and Federal Budget
Committee Description
The Legislative Committee and Federal Budget Committee is assigned responsibility for identifying and evaluating bills and policy issues coming before the US Congress having the potential for affecting the needs and interests of the Association and its members, and for developing and recommending positions on such measures to the Executive Committee. The committee also explores ways of working with Canada and Mexico on significant legislation affecting our respective countries.
A major focus of the committee is its attention to specific terms on any questions dealing with fish and wildlife resource conservation and management and the role and authorities of the states. The committee also considers any related economic and environmental issues which could figure in the success or failure of state conservation and management efforts. When formulated, the Association's position will be presented to Congress by the Legislative Director, Gary Taylor (gtaylor@fishwildlife.org) with cooperation and assistance from state member agencies as appropriate.
The Chairman of the Legislative Committee will maintain liaison with the Association to stay abreast of any new legislative developments occurring after a position has been adopted-- particularly those which might require further committee review. The Chairman will, where importance and time constraints of an issue dictate, poll committee members on the question to provide further guidance to the Association in working on the issue.
