Invasive Species Committee

Committee Description

Invasive plants and animals are the greatest challenge to wildlife and fisheries management in the 21st century, with more than 20 states now have invasive species threats. As federal land management agencies commit millions of dollars to fighting invasive species challenges, and strategic coordination among state and federal agencies is critical to the conservation and expansion of existing wildlife and fisheries habitat, the Association began the Invasive Species Committee in 2005 to meet these challenges.

The Invasive Species Committee, formed by merger of the Aquatic Nuisance Species Working Group and the Invasive Species Advisory Working Group, increases efficiency, provide a national forum for coordinated action among state and federal agencies, and provide a foundation for development of a strategic IAFWA invasive species plan.

The Association is currently working on a strategic position on the invasive species issue, that would prioritize invasive species threats, and suggest a framework for cooperation among the state and federal agencies to engage the invasive species challenge.
