Education/Outreach/Diversity Committee

Communications

The Communications Committee is responsible for addressing information/public affairs needs of the Association. These include:

  • Reviewing Association-endorsed projects to identify areas which will benefit from enhanced communication efforts.
  • Making recommendations on possible communications efforts to the Executive committee or to other committees as appropriate.
  • Facilitating efforts of agencies (state, provincial, federal and non-government) to increase public awareness of fish and wildlife programs.
  • This committee should serve as a high-level umbrella information network for other agencies by speeding the flow of information and helping to limit the duplication of communication efforts.
  • This committee should maintain close ties with the ACI whose members deal directly with media efforts to benefit fish and wildlife programs in North America.

Conservation Education

The education side of the committee is responsible for facilitating improvement in wildlife-related education programs. This includes (but is not limited to) the dissemination and evaluation of state and provincial hunter, angler, fur harvester and other wildlife-related education curricula; and is to be conducted in cooperation with appropriate provincial, federal and state government agencies, as well as appropriate non-governmental organizations. The committee assists in establishing standards, guidelines and curricula for such education programs, and facilitates beneficial exchanges of information in this regard. The committee is responsible for cooperation with the Executive Vice President to implement study recommendations and other initiatives for the enhancement of appropriate wildlife-related education programs.

The committee is to maintain active liaison with organizations involved in wildlife-related education, including (but not limited to) the Cooperative Extension System (ES, USDA, state CES-S), the Fur Institute of Canada, the Hunter Education Association, the Izaak Walton League of America, the National Rifle Association, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, Project WILD, the Wildlife Management Institute, and appropriate regional associations. The committee is also responsible for fostering cooperation and coordination among appropriate continuing education programs for wildlife professionals.
